12th March 2014 :: Brass Celebration Concert for Rhyl Salvationist George Mowbray
Press Release 12/3/14

There will be a celebratory brass band concert on Saturday 29th March at Rhyl Salvation Army Corps, Windsor Street, Rhyl LL18 1BW, starting at 7.30pm. The event is to celebrate and remember the tremendous contribution made by the late George Mowbray to music making in Rhyl and much further afield.
George was Young People’s Band Leader at Hednesford SA and latterly Rhyl SA, and many of those he taught to play have gone on to enjoy careers at the highest level within Military Bands, Orchestras and Brass Bands.
The concert programme has been chosen by the Mowbray family, and reflects George’s passion for brass bands and Salvationist arrangements. George was a Patron of The Co-operative Funeralcare Band North West, from which his son Kevin retired as musician and Chairman. His Grandson, Daniel and wife Hannah Mowbray both play percussion in the band.
Kevin Mowbray said “Dad was so patient, and like many others gave up countless hours to pass on his knowledge and musicianship to scores of young people. He may have passed on, but what a legacy of music-making he leaves with us all.”
Kevin continued “The last time Dad heard The Co-operative Funeralcare Band North West perform was at Dan and Hannah’s wedding in March 2013. It was such a happy day, and my brother Malcolm, sister Valerie and family want the concert at Rhyl SA on 29th March to be celebratory, too.”
All funds raised will be shared between Cancer Research UK and Rhyl Salvation Army for their local work. Tickets (£5 donation) can be obtained from Kevin Mowbray kevinjmowbray@yahoo.co.uk, or by calling 07849 609125. Or go to the Events Page on this website and send a ticket Enquiry.
